The storm that had been making its through the area wasn't much of a big deal. Dark gray clouds blocked out the moons and stars, but the clouds were swift. A few drops of rain fell on the sun-scorched ground, leaving a dark circle behind. The leaves on ever plant seemed to perk up slightly in anticipation of the precious water they needed. A strange young woman, if she could have been called such, sat by herself on a slab of stone, absently inspecting the leaves. She held a few in her hand, and one was speared by the claws on her paw. A small pile of shredded leaves lay at her feet. Any other person would have long ago grow bored of waiting on the rock, but for someone like her, who possessed nearly infinite patience, it was nothing. When you had no earthly desires to tie you down, it was easy to sit silently like a predator poised to spring. Besides, she was waiting for her Ayden, and for him, she could wait forever until she was reduced to dust. Without him, she would be dead. Again.
Ever since he'd discovered these ruins, he had been intrigued by them. The legends said only those with evil hearts could reach the top of the stairs. Though he had no idea what was at the top, Ayden had told her he thought it would be useful for his studies. That was what had brought them there today. Her Ayden insisted she remain behind and keep watch, so that was what she was doing now. She wasn't ripping leaves just because she could. When you have a paw that can't hold things easily and a clawed hand, it's hard to examine things closely without tearing them apart.
Thanks to her keen hearing, she could hear Ayden's frustrated curses as he tried to get past the barrier. When the wind swept away enough clouds for her to spot the moon, she realized it was almost moonhigh. Midnight. He'd been trying to get to the top for over an hour or so. At last, the young man stomped down the ruins and came to a stop next to her, sitting down with a sigh.
"I suppose I'm not getting up there any time soon." he commented. Though Guin couldn't see his face, she could tell he was upset. Feelings confused her, since she had none of her own, but her Ayden was teaching her about them to the best of his ability. It was a long process, but they both felt it would be all around better if she understood emotions so she could fight more effectively.
"What happens now, Ayden-mine?" she queried, her tone of voice never varying from the usual monotone. He glanced at her, frowning slightly.
"I'd rather you didn't call me that," he responded, though he doubted she'd obey his request.
