Ayden
" Energy can neither be created or destroyed. It's simple science."
the basics,
»»character full name: Ayden Reed (Though he never uses his last name.)
»»age: Nineteen
»»sexual orientation: Heterosexual
»»alignment: Dark
»»position: Rogue; formerly working towards becoming a healer.
»»gender: Male
»»power: Necromancer ;; Using music, he can force a dead body, or even a simple skeleton, to come back to life. Ayden can forge several corpses together to create an entirely new being, like he did for Guin. His new pals don't need to eat, sleep or even breath. In fact, most of them only have their heart, depending on how long they were dead, and it doesn't even beat. Instead, Ayden transfers some of his energy into them. If he gives up too much, he could loose consciousness, so he has to be careful about how many "experiments" he's working on. His creations can't stray to far from his side, or they'll run out of energy and die again. If he really wants to keep them around, Ayden will find them and resurrect them a second time.
He was originally gifted with the ability to summon small amounts of fire, but he gave that up to pursue his research.
»»flute: Ayden always keeps his trusty iron flute with him, no matter where he goes. It allows his powers to reach farther than if he were to hum. A short blade is attached to the end, making the notes sound slightly distorted. When he has to fight, he weilds the flute like a knife. It's a fairly plain instrument. He keeps it in a leather pouch to protect it from rain. His mother gave him a wooden flute and taught him to play when he was a child. He passed it on to Amelia, and buried it with her.
the appearance,
»»eyes: Yellow and cat-like.
»»markings: He has a tattoo of the roman numeral 'XIII,' which was given to him by his father. There is also a smaller scar on his forehead, just before the hairline.
»»height: 5' 7"
»»weight: 143 lbs, give or take a few.
»»general appearance: To be perfectly honest, Ayden is just your average guy from a distance, other than the fact most people can sense that he wants to be left alone. His dark brown hair is just a tad bit too long, with a slight spike to it that he never bothers to fix. When he was born, his eyes were hazel, but since he started to use dark magic, they've switched to yellow, and are more similar to Guin's lynx eyes than those of a human's. Since he has nothing to fear from the creatures in the forest, Ayden walks where he pleases. Because of this, he is a fairly strong runner with more stamina then most people. He isn't that physically strong, but he can defend himself to a certain degree. He does have fast reflexes, though, which is a Godsend since Ayden has such poor balance. It’s even a bit dangerous for him to run, and he never runs anywhere with his flute out if he can help it. It’s the equivalent of running with scissors. He learned that the hard way, and has the scar to prove it.
the personality,
»»likes:
-Irony
-Night time
-Silence
-Testing theories
»»dislikes:
-Being proven wrong; losing
-Looking stupid
-Mind-games
-Stereotypes
-Keeping secrets
-Killing, especially if there's no point to it.
-Drama
»»strengths:
Tolerance ;; Ayden has a high tolerance for pain and gore. He's one of the few human beings who can witness a poor kid get torn apart by a mutated animal and walk away without being scarred for life. He can also undergo a great deal of physical pain without much of a reaction, unless it's something small like getting pinched or accidentally cutting your finger. He'll whine like a five-year-old.
Strategist ;; Since he's not prone to panic under pressure, Ayden can easily work his way out of a tough situation. If you try to trap him, he's probably already a step or two ahead of you. He studies human nature when he can, and since most people follow predictable patterns, it isn't hard to predict someone's next move.
Communication ;; No matter the species, Ayden can always communicate with his experiments telepathically. If they don't possess brains, they'll understand him through music, for some odd reason. Since none of them have souls or emotions, they obey him without question. Then have no reason to fear death, after all.
»»weaknesses:
Young Children ;; Ayden just can't bring himself to harm a child under the age of ten, even indirectly. He couldn't even order Guin or one of his other experiments to do it. Mind you, he probably wouldn't try to save them if they were in trouble. It's the way of the world for the weak to die, after all. But, if that kid happened to be a girl, chances are he'd step in. He can't help but think of his own sister every time he sees a little girl running about.
Kittens and Puppies ;; No, I'm not joking. The poor guy can't resist a cute little puppy, no matter how hard he tries. So much for being a scary, hard-core villain. Even if it's a mutant, as long as it's cute, he'll try to tame it and keep it. It's even worse with kittens. He would've gotten killed trying to protect one if Guin hadn't stepped in and helped.
Trust Issues ;; If you hadn't guess by now, it's easier to get a rabid, mutated fox to trust you than it is to earn Ayden's. Even if you do managed to, one false move and he's your newest enemy. Cross him once and he might forgive, but blow it a second time and he'll remember it forever.
»»secrets: Weeeell he honestly doesn't have any. It's just that no one wants to hang around him for too long, so not much is known about him.
»»general personality: Though he comes across as a cold person at times, Ayden isn't your generic bad guy. Just because he can kinda sorta raise the dead doesn't mean he's evil, though the guy does have a knack for sarcasm. Even so, he embraces the image, since it causes most people to steer clear of him. As expected, the guy isn't much of a people person. He doesn't have much contact with the living, and his experiments aren't exactly a talkative bunch; Guin was the only one he cared about enough to give her human vocal chords. Though he constantly asserts that he doesn't need anyone, he'd be lost without Guin, and not just because his sense of direction is terrible. He really is attached to her.
When his father was alive, Ayden had to watch what he said and did. Anything could have been translated into an act of hostility. So, he began to build up barriers inside himself so that he never let his anger seep out. Since he began to use his powers, he's much more open about his emotions. Naturally, he assumes there's a scientific reason, but he hasn't found one yet. He doesn't want to admit he's moving on. Ayden still holds a serious grudge against his father, and refuses to give up on it. Even after he succeeds in bringing Amelia back, and he knows he will, he'll never forgive Father.
the history,
»»mother: Diana. She died a few days after Amelia was born.
»»father: Richard. Ayden refers to him as 'Father', since he can't remember the man's name. The guy was a jerk, anyway. He died shortly after Ayden turned fifteen, so he was among the last adults to die from illness.
»»siblings: Amelia (Died around age seven.)
»»others: He might be kin to one of the Children without his knowledge. Otherwise, there's no one else.
»»background: Diana was a great mother. She did her best to shield Ayden from his violent father. Since the man couldn't get to the boy whenever he thought his son had done something wrong, Diana was punished in his place. Not long after Ayden turned eleven, his mother found out she was pregnant. The only problem was that she knew for a fact it wasn't her husband's child. The man she was having an affair with offered her a way to a new life. He promised to take care of her and her unborn baby, along with Ayden, if he wanted to come along. Diana refused. She couldn't bring herself to leave her husband.
As soon as Father found out Diana was pregnant, he flew into a rage and attacked her. Ayden knew the baby might get hurt, so he protected his mother and even got a good punch or two in before his father calmed down enough to back off. For an eleven-year-old, the kid was strong, but still no match for his burly, six foot two father. He didn't escaped unscathed.
Ayden took care of his mother for the month leading up to his sister's birth. Amelia was a week premature, but she was strong from the start. A few days after the birth of her daughter, Diana passed away. Instead of blaming the little girl, Father decided it was Ayden's fault for not taking care of her properly. So, he tattooed him with the number thirteen, since the boy had obviously brought bad luck down upon his family. Like a good brother, Ayden took care of Amelia and protected her from his father. Ayden learned to defend himself from Amelia's father, who took a liking to Ayden and even invited the siblings to live with him. Ayden refused, just as his mother had, because he knew if he and his sister left, their father would just come and take them back, or worse, hurt the man they would be living with.
When the first disease hit, Father seemed immune. By then, Amelia could walk and talk, and knew full well what her brother was doing for her. Towards the end of the plaque, their father finally caught it, and shortly before he was bedridden, he attack the little girl with a large stick. As usual, Ayden rushed to protect her, surprising all three of them by creating a fireball in the palm of his hand. After that, the siblings were never bothered by their father until just before he died. Father managed to get himself out of bed and walk outside. Amelia was playing with her toys about a yard from the edge of the platform. Seeing his chance, he stumbled up to her and pushed her off. She survived the fall, but when a rescue part when done to save her, she had died from loss of blood from a wound on the back of her head.
After that, Ayden was seriously considering killing his father. Then, he decided to do the next best thing; bring his sister back to life. Two days after he began to practice dark magic, Father finally passed on. But that didn't mean Ayden abandoned his goal. When he was eighteen, he was exiled from the village when his new gift was discovered. One of his experiments, a skeletal coyote, got away from where it was hidden, broke into the chicken coop, and killed several chickens before it figured out it couldn't eat. After that, Ayden ordered it "back to bed" for causing so much trouble.
Guin
»»Full name: Guinea Pig
»»age: Unknown.
»»sexual orientation: Does it matter?
»»alignment: Dark
»»position: Ayden's main test subject.
»»gender: Female
»»eyes: Both of her yellow eyes are those of a mutated lynx.
»»height: 5' 1"
»»weight: Fairly light, since she doesn't exactly have most of the things your average human has.
»»general appearance: She seems quite graceful, despite her grotesque appearance. While her head and face are perfectly human, she has a set of fox ears atop her head in place of human ears. Ayden even went so far as to switch out the majority of her human teeth with fox teeth. Her eyes and left arm once belonged to a large, mutated lynx that Ayden found just minutes after it died. Her right arm is human, with odd-shaped claws from the lynx in place of finger nails. The flesh of her upper arm is gone, revealing her humerus, so she doesn't have much strength in it. The lower part of her right leg is nothing but clean white bone as well..Since her 'base' was human, most of her body is as well. Her feet are paws that once belonged to a huge, unidentified cat she killed when it attacked Ayden. Her creator also took the whiskers from the cat and gifted her the ability to detect the slightest changes in air currents around her. Her black hair rarely reaches her shoulders, since it doesn't grow easily, but her bangs are always long and often fall over her eyes.
As for clothes, she'll wear just about anything. In fact, the only reason she wears clothes at all is because Ayden told her too. Whenever her outfit starts to wear out, Ayden brings her something new to wear. She prefers dark colors, so it's usually a dark green shirt and black pants with the right leg torn off at the knee, revealing the bare bone of her lower leg, just before her paw. She wears an old blue cat collar as a joke.
»»general personality: Guin is a very blank creature. She maybe be 'living,' but she doesn't have a soul. Ayden is trying to construct one for her, but it isn't going very well. Over time, he might be able to give her a few emotions, but she knows that having a soul is far beyond her reach. The poor girl can’t even fake emotions well. She has no knowledge of her past life as a human. Who cares, anyway? It’s over now, so it is no longer relevant. Despite her animal origins, she is fairly intelligent, but relies on her feral instincts in a fight. The only thing she knows--and needs to know--is that Ayden made her and keeps her alive, and if he died, she would die, too. Since she can't feel love or affection, that’s the only reason she acts as his protector. No matter how far away she is from him, Guin can always pinpoint his location and get back to him. There is a bond that is forged between Ayden and every one of his experiments, even if the creatures he resurrects are unable to figure out why they are drawn to him.
Guin doesn’t speak unless spoken to, for the most part. She meows, hisses, growl, et cetera, though. The only animal sounds she cannot duplicate is the chirps of birds, though she is trying. Even when she does speak English, there is always a slight mew in her voice, or if she’s angry, a growl.
