Reyshi
" Sometimes I wonder if our cries will ever be heard by someone; Sometimes I wonder if we will ever be forgiven for mistakes."
the basics,
»»character full name: Reyshi Sin Nylecoj
»»age: 16
»»sexual orientation: Heterosexual
»»alignment: Neutral
»»position: Food gatherer
»»gender: Female
»»power:
Shadows bring a new dimension: Whenever Reyshi touches an object she can see and hear through any shadow it casts. Though this has its obvious advantages her power is difficult to control and dominates her, making her daily life a struggle to steady her eye sight and ignore unimportant sounds when she doesn’t cover up her skin. Her power allows her to hear, but the conversations are usually grossly distorted and come up sounding like demonic entities; she has to focus her attention to get a clear message. When she focuses she is in a trance like state, completely defenseless and prone to getting her belongings stolen.
the appearance,
»»eyes: Blue that changes to purple.
»»markings: Thin charcoal colored bands cover her neck, ankles, and wrists, one for each. Painted on with a thin brush they are barely noticeable and have left the places where they are stained a deep grey as they were washed on and reapplied.
»»height: 5’3”
»»weight: 115 lb
»»general appearance:
Reyshi can usually be seen in two types of clothing, baggy or close fitting. Both are worn in nondescript or rather dark colors (burgundy, dark navy, black, or dark brown) and her long dark lavender hair is often unkempt and loose. A small gold disk, about the size of a quarter, on a brown rope adorns her neck and is never taken off. Reyshi’s face and neck are the only skin that can be seen as even her hands—especially her hands—are covered with black gloves. Depending on where she is heading her shoes are either brown sneakers (for running away from monsters while gathering food) or white flats with mauve tips (to just walk in the village). A dagger hangs from her left hip in a crude leather holster, her only mode of defense.
Reyshi’s skin is ghostly pale, a hue lighter than alabaster it would be attractive if it was her natural tone but contrasting greatly with her dark clothing she looks more like a specter wandering aimlessly from platform to platform. Her gait is slow and unsteady, strides short. She speaks without arm movements while her gaze never falls on a person’s eyes, preferring to cast hers to the surroundings. Under her eyes the skin is often dark due to lack of sleep and her fingernails, though covered most of the time in public, are often bitten and stained brown with dirt.
the personality,
»»likes:
- Solitude
- Plants
- Darkness
»»dislikes:
- Optimists
- Lights
- Mutated Animals
- Touch
- Revealing clothes
»»strengths:
- Information gathering. Since Reyshi wanders about by herself people have gotten used to her presence. Because of this hardly anyone pays her any attention and she can snoop on their conversation whether it be idle chatter or of the utmost importance. Her power also helps her listen to people if she truly wishes to, but Reyshi doesn’t use it often.
- Running. Although she sees this as a rather pointless strength it was acquired after running so much from monsters when she gathered food with the others, and now she can outrun her companions and most of the monsters (or reach relative safety before they overtake her).
»»weaknesses:
- Sleep deprived. Although her power allows her to surveillance others it is a great bother when she is trying to sleep because the moonlight shines onto her bed, casting its shadow on the floor and walls. Her bare skin touching the bed her eyesight is shifted from the ceiling to the walls, so she sees herself on the bed. In addition to that she has suffered from night terrors since an early age, and the lack of sleep only contributes to them.
- Easily manipulated. Not getting an adequate amount of sleep the purple haired teen is easily swayed by other people’s words and oscillates between sides of good and evil.
»»secrets:
- From time to time when she is in need of undisturbed (by people) solitude she meanders into the forest and sits in a tree, returning before nightfall.
- Reyshi’s night terrors are about when her brother killed her parents when she was four and then left to the forest while she cried and fled to the Village Square.
- Though she refuses to be a hunter she is an excellent shot with an arrow.
»»general personality:
Reyshi is a rather apathetic girl who lets things play out for themselves, and has a cynical view of the world. Provided that she is not approached from a party she remains a spectator to the play before her. She doesn’t care about the people around her but enjoys hearing their voices for it makes her feel like a member of the community, as if she could carry on a normal conversation with another person if she wished. Though she seeks solitude she finds herself wishing deep in a recess of her heart that she could be with people and, above all, be able to touch others without worry. For this goal she trains her powers for as long as she can in a day, and can often be seen standing with her bare hands against a wall or tree. Deep down a shy and fragile girl she is optimistic that one day she can control her power and find at least one friend. The fact that she hasn’t been able to acquire one has made her hate optimists and induced some self-loathing.
the history,
»»mother: Eva Nylecoj(deceased)
»»father: Tikal Nylecoj(deceased)
»»siblings: Mikhail (brother, runaway, presumed dead)
»»others: N/A
»»background:
Born to a typical family she grew up almost normal, with a brother and two loving parents. Her father was a hunter who taught her to use a bow and arrow as he often used, and her mother was a child watcher. Her brother, sixteen years her senior, was a wood worker in the village but was a bit disturbed in the head, getting pleasure from going out into the forest and cutting up animals. When she was young Reyshi was like any other child running around in glee without a care in the world as long as she had a family and friends. She could usually be seen running from platform to platform in glee chasing fellow children or trying her best to help adults run their errands. All in all she was a very helpful child who did her best to help the community, even aspiring to be a healer to nurse the sick back to health.
Then on a hot summer day while she was sleeping in her bedroom Reyshi woke up to indistinct yelling and plenty of furniture scrapping in the other room. Curious as to what it was she quietly slipped out of bed and opened her door, shuffling into the hallway. Opening her parents’ bedroom door a sliver she peeked inside and saw with a horror that the room was painted red, but a ghastly dark red that she had only seen in injuries. Her eyes quickly scanning the room for any signs of her parents she spotted her brother standing in front of the bed, a bloody axe held in his hand. Letting out a horrified scream as she noticed the two extra bodies she fled to the village square without looking back. Later learning that her parents were murdered and her brother nowhere to be found she refused to live with anyone else and locked herself in her room.
From a carefree young child Reyshi transformed into an apathetic untrusting girl who refused to socialize with the people she used to help. She continued practicing the bow and arrow, a keepsake of her father, and became a food gatherer in the hopes of one day spotting her brother on the outskirts of the village.

It’s hot…and noisy. Four year old Reyshi thought as she woke up in the middle of the night with the moonlight filtering through her open window and onto her face. Her white nightie stuck to her skin in the summer heat as she rolled on to her right side in an attempt to return to blissful sleep. Facing the wall she jumped as she was startled by some muffled screaming and other noises, assorted thunks that sounded as if her brother was doing some wood work in the house. More unnerving was the fact that more often than not she heard a sickly squelch, the kind she heard when she’d seen a hunter kill a monster near the village, followed by screams of pain that were getting fainter and fainter along with someone crying and pleading.
“M-Mommy…Daddy.” She called out in fright, but her voice was a mere whisper that couldn’t penetrate the air. Slipping out of bed she walked toward the mahogany door and opened it, flinching as she heard the sharp scraping sound it always made; her brother had never repositioned the door lower so it would stop doing that. Fearing that someone had heard the noise she became rigid and pondered over whether or not she should just flee out the window. About to turn away and act on her survival instinct she hesitated as she heard a pitiful scream that was cut suddenly cut off.
Disregarding her discomfort the young child forced a leaden foot in front of the other until they fell on spilled liquid seeping from her parents’ door. What…is this? She thought as her bare feet were stained a dark burgundy. Wiggling her toes in the puddle she frowned in confusion as she tried to figure out what it was, but decided that since she didn’t know she should get her older brother. Mikhail had always been smart, her parents had told her, and he’d always babied Reyshi for all four years of her life. He acted strangely from time to time, as if a different person and she feared him during those few occasions. Still she idolized her older brother and realized that she should’ve gone to him at first, but knew he would only give her a light scolding for her folly.
“Mikey…” She whispered as she pushed opened his door. Peering inside she was surprised to find the usually messy room tidy and orderly. Confused at the overnight metamorphosis she turned back and saw in the moonlight her footsteps. Small and human shaped they glowed like spilt wine upon the floor, filtering down through the cracks.
So that’s what it was! Wine! Of course her parents must have merely broken a wine bottle in their room while they were redecorating. Satisfied with her innocent conclusion but needing to satiate her curiosity she retraced her footsteps and gently pushed open her parents’ door.
Peering inside the forbidden chamber she wondered what knickknacks would be inside, what treasures lay just waiting to be discovered for she knew that her parents must have some secret cache inside because she was not allowed in. Giddy with excitement her ocean toned eyes scanned the moonlit room and for the second time that night she froze. The room was nothing like how she had imagined it; furniture scattered helter-skelter, covers torn and strewn on the floor carelessly, splintering gashes covering the walls and floor. But these anomalous things were not what drew the young child’s attention. Eyes haven given the room a quick scan she felt like retching at the site of two mutilated silhouettes, the larger on the bed and the smaller on the floor, that were oozing out the same red liquid that stained her feet and seemingly everything else in the room.
“D-Daddy…?” She breathed out the question against her will, knowing that she shouldn’t have done so. Biting she looked about in a flurry once more and spotted something she had missed before, or rather someone at the foot of her parents’ bed. Shoulders hunched, panting from exertion, and holding a bloodied axe she took in the calm look on the person’s face as he turned around and recognized with a jolt the sapphire toned eyes gazing back at her. “M-Mikey, Mommy and Daddy are…” Whimpering she could not finish her sentence as the truth sunk in that her mother and father were there, they would not have left her behind in the middle of the night even if Mikhail had stayed to care for her. Unconsciously her head began to shake in denial and she tried to croak out a response, but it came out as a cry of terror from a child that was confused and feeling instinctive fear that she’d never felt before, one that told her to run and never look back, to repress this horrible experience and seek comfort in solitude for people were not to be trusted because if her family could not be trusted then who could?
Splinters in her feet from her panicked running she had not know she had begun Reyshi fell to her knees in the center of the village square as raindrops, each as delicate as the one it preceded, fell from her inexperienced eyes and onto the beautifully crafted wood she had admired all her life. In her current situation it seemed silly to notice the wood, but Reyshi looked back at her footsteps that followed her like black and grimy specters hungry for her life, and one she was not willing to give. Whimpering not at the pain in her feet from her heavy foot falls nor from the splinters that had been pushed in in her hurry, but because she was petrified Reyshi crawled over to a secluded part of the platform that would not be light until midday and, panting from fear and exhaustion, closed her eyes to escape what was no doubt a nightmare. Everything would be fine in the morning.
