It didn't take long for Hayyel to come around, thankfully. He glanced toward the team of healers that had waited several paces away from him and waved them away. She would be alright as long as she had someone to watch over her. He couldn't help but smile and let out a small chuckle at the sight of her getting up. For that single moment she was the child that she should have been and not the harsh warrior that she had been forced to become. Childish was very becoming on the woman. It softened her brow and, Rook surmised, her tone as well. It was short lived however. Hayyel had regained her composure and was back to being the huntress. Rook's smile vanished just as her display did and he crossed his arms over his chest as he observed her gain her bearing. When she looked toward him and lost her balance he let out a laugh.
"It's the greeting of a doctor who is fretting over his patient." he said as he shifted in his seat so that he was leaning forward. "And I'm here because someone lost consciousness and almost went into hypovolemic shock. Other than that, I work here." he said as he offered her a smile despite their earlier argument. Rook was mature enough to put it behind him, especially considering the current circumstances. "Anyway, how are you feeling?" he asked as he reached out and placed his hand against her forehead, checking her temperature. She had warmed up a bit since she had been back in the infirmary with the blanket. He didn't expect any major changes though. She would be weak for days to come and her pulse wouldn't gain any strength for hours. Though, it was good practice to repeatedly assess her vitals.
He removed his hand from her forehead and rested it on his lap, the scarred hand brushing against one of the holes he had recently made. The infirmary returned to it's usual bustling state as others began to turn their attention away from the two and went about their business. Chatter filled the air and every so often a shout of pain, but nothing to serious. Hayyel was, in fact, the most critically wounded patient they had at the moment which required Rook to give her his full attention. Something that would probably bother Hayyel to no end.

She frowned as he laughed. She sniffed and narrowed her eyes at him. But as his hand came to her forehead she flushed, her cheeks reddening as she pulled back from his hand. She felt weird, stupid loss of blood. She sighed and tried to calm her fluttering heart. She wished she could just go meditate somewhere. Relax and be back to normal. As he answered her question she doubted him. Now Hayyel wasn't one to automatically think the worst in people, even if she had become a bit paranoid since the whole Dark Magic fiasco. But she didn't trust Rook. Not in the way that he was evil, more like that he could see through to her softer side and expose that to the rest of the world.
So she didn't want to be touched by him, she didn't want to smell his scent of citrus and pine. It was all just too scary. She was after all still much of a child and scary things were something that made her want to run and hide under the bed. Though her feared things were more like possible emotional scars than physical ones. She was tired and she just wanted to sleep, but she knew if she did that she would be hounded by the nightmares again, like she always was.
"I feel weird is all, I assume that's normal," she said with a shrug. She didn't know how to describe medically what she was feeling. But she did know she couldn't wait to get out of there, to get away from this budding man who was turning her insides so strangely. IT made her angry that all he had to do was to be near her and she wanted to either flee or turn around and push his buttons. Snap at him much like a dog would just to see his reaction.

"If by weird you mean terrible, yes. That's usually how most people feel after they've lost quite a bit of blood." he said as his red eyes scanned over her. Had she just blushed? The girl that sat before Rook was utterly confusing. She could yell and scream at him but any sort of contact with him elicited some odd reaction. He wondered if she did that with everyone. He pushed the thought out of his mind, not needing to think about it. His current focus was taking care of his patient. That was another thing that set Rook apart from the others. He was so distracted by his work that he barely had time to be the child he should have been. They all were forced to grow up but Rook had actually become an adult in mentality. It was another one of the changes that confused so many.
"Don't worry, all you have to do is rest a bit and you'll feel better. Getting some food in you wouldn't hurt either. I doubt you've had anything to build up your strength since you got up this morning." he said as he leaned against his chair and rested his hands behind his head. His torn clothes fell backwards at the movement, framing his sides. "Anyway, since you've already collapsed once I've gotta keep you here overnight to make sure that nothing to terrible happens to you." He knew that she wouldn't like the last revelation but it was necessary. Even the mighty leader of the Protectors had to rest from time to time, less she ran herself ragged and killed herself along with the entire movement. Rook rubbed the back of his head, believing that an argument like that could have silenced the girl earlier and avoided their entire fight.
"Once morning rolls around I'll check on your leg and maybe I can rig something together for you to wear so you can go out and hunt." he said, attempting to reach some sort of compromise with the girl. He couldn't have her go running about with that leg of her's. If she treated it too roughly she could have ended up like Rook, broken and unable to hunt the big prey she craved. "It won't be too pretty and it'll slow you down but at least your leg will heal and you'll be able to go out." he added, "At least that way you won't end up like me."

Her eyebrows pinches together and at the mention of staying over night. She didn't want to. But she really didn't have the strength to argue about it anymore. She was just so tired. "No I don't mean I feel terrible, I mean I feel weird," she corrected him quite firmly. As he leaned back her gaze flicked over his form again, but she didn't seem to notice doing it. It was almost a curious look that came to her face when she did that. Sure she had seen other boys without their shirts on, but she had never seen Rook like that.
She thought back on food and wondered if she was hungry. Her stomach did a little rumble in response to her thoughts. She gently laid her hand across her stomach and her face turned almost sad. She didn't like being hungry, it always made her grumpy. She sighed, "I suppose food would be good." She said with a slightly sheepish tone to her voice. Her stomach grumbled again in agreement. She supposed if she was to stay here over night she might as well get comfortable. She stayed sitting and leaned back against the wall behind her bed.
"What kind of contraption could you make that could help me hunt?" she asked a look of surprise now replacing the sheepish look. Why would he want to help her to hunt? HE seemed so against it. Then he said about something about ending up like him. She confused again, "What do you mean end up like you? There is nothing wrong with you, besides your emotional state." She saw him not as broken, but as a changed man. She merely saw him as an older version of how he used to be. She saw passed the scars and injuries. She saw someone who just was fighting with his inner self.

Rook glanced over towards one of the apprentice healers that was currently on duty. He waved the boy over and silently told him to bring the Lead Hunter something to eat. They boy gave a curt nod before running off to the back room. Rook gave a sort of half smile at the sight. In the year since becoming the Lead Healer he still hadn't grown used to people obeying his commands. He was still getting used to the fact that people were showing him some sort of respect after becoming a healer. It felt good having someone actually look up to him instead of being terrified of him as most had been in his youth. He went back to leaning in his chair as the boy vanished behind a far off wooden door. It wouldn't take too terribly long for him to scrounge something up for Hayyel. Though, the quality of the food couldn't be predicted. Despite all Rook had done for the hospital it's food was still rather... plain, to put it nicely. "We need to brace it and keep the weight off of it." he answered without thinking about it.
"You really don't get it do you?" he asked as he scratched the back of his head furiously. How could she? Most of the Children had gone without any real schooling and when it came to anything involving the human body or medicine it was best for someone to go to a healer. "If you're too rough on that leg of your's and don't let it heal properly you'll ruin it. The muscles won't knit back together right and you'll never be able to put much weight on it. If you can we'll have to brace it as not to injure it further. In either situation you won't be able to hunt like you used to. You'll be slow, noisy, and I highly doubt you'll be able to keep pace with any of those monsters out there." he said, remaining in his rather comfortable position.
"That's what happened to me." he said as he closed his eyes. He knew that Hayyel wouldn't understand, but he decided to try again anyway. "The muscles in my back were shredded to bits by that bear. I didn't let them heal properly and now I can't even lift an axe without my arm going dead on me let alone fire a bow. My leg is shot to hell and I can barely walk, let alone chase anything and that's not to mention my..." he caught himself before he mentioned his eye. He clamped his mouth shut for a moment as an excuse popped up in his head. "Not to mention that the damn bear took my axe with it when it ran off." he said rather quickly as he opened his eyes, glancing out the window. It was an incredibly lame excuse, probably one of the worst, but at least it was a save.
"Believe me, Hayyel. If I could still hunt like I used to I would. But now," he shrugged his shoulders, his right arm throbbing dully at the motion as if to remind him that he couldn't. "If I tried all I could do is hunt small fries like the kids." His eyes found their way to the Hunting Copse and he watched as several smaller children brandished their weapons as they descended into the woods. "And I'm not even allowed to do that." he muttered, remembering his powers effects on the meat of his kill.

He seemed so sad. As if he wanted to hunt, but then again he was totally against it. He was utterly confusing her. Did he want to be a Hunter or not? She had a feeling that some part of him, deep inside still yearned for that rush of the kill, the desire for the chase. As he said what would happen to her she fell silent. She couldn't imagine not being able to hunt. Not being able to fulfill that instinct. So could she sit still for a while and just let her body heal? She assumed it would take a lot of will power and patience, will was something Hayyel had; patience, well it was a virtue she had been born without.
"I suppose I could try taking it easy for a while. Not going," she sighed almost painfully, "hunting. If you think all that would happen to me. What would I be able to do?" She asked the question warily, almost afraid of his answer. Holding the predator inside for however long it would take her to heal would be horrible and probably make her a terrible thing to be around. It just took so much of her energy when she didn't have an outlet to expend the desire on. Often she would pick fights with others just to see whether they would attack, like she had with Rook just now. But Rook and Hayyel had always sort of been at odds. He was an alpha male of human and she an alpha female, it was hard having two dominant people in the same room when they didn't have an agreement or didn't necessarily know each other that well.
She looked up as food came in, it was mostly fruit this time and she was quite glad about that. The porridge that the infirmary usually served was not something she liked. As they set the wooden tray of fruit on her lap she glanced at all that was given. Two oranges and one peach, it was enough to keep her hunger subsided for now. For one so small she ate a lot, her metabolism was fast and the amount of exercise she got was enough to keep any fat off her body. She shrugged her jacket closer to her body as she eagerly tore into the peach, she loved peaches but like kiwis more. The peach juice dribbled down her chin and she wiped it away with a hand as she closed her eyes and lost herself in the sweet flavor for a few moments. Forgetting that she had company next to her.
